CPT is pleased to announce a new course in Pastoral Counselling

This course has been designed especially for teachers, nurses, social workers, clergy, GP's , human resources offices and others working in a caring capacity who seek a high calibre of counselling courses to enhance their existing skill set and qualifications. The seminar day will consists of audio/visual presentations, lectures, role-plays, counselling skills and group counselling.

Nowadays pastoral counselling moves beyond the support or encouragement a church community can offer, by providing professional therapy that brings together a full understanding of the personality and human experience.

Counselling skills are a vital component of such work, which may be voluntary or paid, providing support and care.

What the Certificate Pastoral Course offers:

The Certificate Pastoral Course will offer Theory, Counselling Skills and Self-Awareness and among other things result in:-
  • Strategies in psychosocial/spiritual assessment and referral
  • Understanding mental illness and clinical diagnosis
  • Intervention strategies in supporting a compressive change process
  • Theoretical models and application to pastoral counselling
  • An understanding of Theories of Personality, and what we each bring to the counselling relationship
  • Counselling skills for different contexts: family, Individuals, couples, groups

Assessment

  • Evaluation is continuous throughout the course with elements of self, peer and staff evaluation.
  • There are two written assignments required (approximately 1,000 words each). One on the use of counselling skills and one on self-development.

Qualification

  • For the award of the certificate, demonstration of a level of competence in counselling skills and theory is required, as well as participation in, and an expected 100% attendance at, both the seminar and groups.
